Umbrella Studio Association Incorporated is an inclusive, notforprofit, exhibition and studio space that drives innovation, invites experimentation, encourages excellence and inspires thankfulness for contemporary visual art in North Queensland and beyond. Umbrella Studio was established in 1986 as a working studio for a group of emerging Townsville artists as the only artist run initiative, and the first professional artist organization north of Brisbane. Since the premature 1990s, Umbrella has been transformed from an artist collective offering feasible studio based facilities, to a funded and professionally managed members based contemporary arts organization, with an annual program of exhibitions, public programs and notable events. Umbrella Studio is a member based organization with over 250 energetic members, and this number is steadily increasing. As healthy as contracting artists, writers and curators, Umbrella is also committed to engaging interested individuals in all facets of the organization, through active participation in its successful membership and volunteer program. I hope to equip Umbrella members with the long ability set necessary in the contemporary artist, rot them with excellent exhibitions, and show the world impartial how vast our artists are. I enjoy experiencing new environments and getting involved in fresh communities. In this role I forged powerful links with a number of organizations, maximum notably those within the Arts community. An experienced arts manager with a masters degree in management and a passion for all art forms. More than 35 years working in the visual arts and higher education, as an artist (20 year practice), an educator have taught art history and sculpture in Universities for more than 25 years. The Committee’s overall role is to govern the organization rather than manage it. To improve the performance of the organization, the Committee is charged with overseeing strategy formulation and policy making and making safe that Umbrella Studio is meeting the purpose for which was formed. Make safe that the service users needs are met in the best ways possible. You are needed to be an umbrella member to exhibit at Umbrella Studio. Main Space The Main Space offers a large gallery exhibition space within Umbrella Studio for the presentation of important contemporary visual arts exhibitions and events. Access Space The Access Space offers a smaller exhibition space for emerging contemporary visual artists, particularly those seeking their beginning solo or group exhibition experience in a professional gallery environment. Stairwell Spaces The stairwell is an interesting space and uncommon space to hang art. The defy of creating works that fills the volume of the space is superior represented. Umbrella Studio has the flexibility of offering two spaces for hire to suit your event needs. The Studio Downstairs is often used for artist workshops, meetings of community groups and activities to engage all ages and skill levels. Hire of our venue includes use of the latter facilities and equipment: The Studio Downstairs is available to artists and community groups for brief term residencies, workshops, meetings and classes. There is also the opportunity to hire the printing presses to create artwork. Completed drawings and sketches to receive home.
