The Australian Council has the task of overseeing, supporting and encouraging the labor of all Mission to Seafarers centers located around the Australia continent. The Council strives hard to encourage throughout its Australian seafaring centers an atmosphere of family, and a sense of service and solidarity in its maritime ministry. The Mission to Seafarers has over 30 locations around Australia providing support where it is needed. Over the years the Mission has sought to assist seafarers in all kinds of feasible ways. They are away from their families for long periods and may meet loneliness and ill health or injury. The Council also endeavors to strengthen links with the Mission to Seafarers' other 230 seafaring centers around the world which makes up our global family and urge network. The Council also maintains a accessible connection and friendship with central office in London. Every two years at our biennial national conference representatives from our centers elect six of their colleagues to serve on the Council on a optional basis. The Council employs a National Coordinator to carry out the executive labor of the Council. For the lonely seafarer it is a sign of welcome and hospitality.
