ALTERNATIVES Consulting Psychologists was established in West End in 2003 with the aim to improve healthy being in individuals and workplaces. ALTERNATIVES has evolved to include clinical psychology, yoga therapy and clinical hypnotherapy, offering an integrative approach to mental health and healthy being for adolescents, adults and couples, while continuing to support the initial aim. Our vision is to combine the superior of clinical psychology and yoga therapy practice to empower and urge you to diminish stress, manage mood and anxiety, improve relationships with others, and generally improve your overall mental health and healthy being. We work with you in a supportive and possible manner to assist you achieve sure changes in your life. We do this through understanding, challenging, building on strengths and capabilities, and helping you to practice and embed new skills and strategies. We have developed a reputation for providing confidential and discreet services in a professional and stable manner. Her hasty studies in tertiary psychology were interrupted by life events but the interest never went away. Her husband James' long term interest in yoga and the eastern philosophies then led to a decision to explore this further by undertaking studies in India. Accompanied by their two young children the family unchanging in India for ten months. An extended period immersed in the culture of such an outstanding vibrant country, and the intense experience of studying and practicing yoga daily, exposed them to ancient philosophies focused on living in peace with yourself and the world. This expanded view of the world directed Sally to a more integrative and holistic approach towards mental health that encompasses all aspects of the individual and their experience of the world. James is the yoga therapist at ALTERNATIVES Consulting Psychologists. James came to yoga as a way to heal his own trauma. James has recently retired from the corporate world so has a good accepting of the demands of this world. He is now dedicating himself fulltime to yoga therapy and teaching yoga with the hope that he can facilitate in others the equivalent healing that yoga has provided him. Sally completed a Masters of Clinical Psychology in Melbourne in 2007, entailing extensive research in the area of attachment theory and emotional regulation. Attachment theory highlights the importance of hasty infant caregiver relationships in developing self regulation of mood and emotion, and developing a pliable and stable mind. Recent research suggests that the trusting, empathic relationship between client and therapist can also yield this secure bottom from which to heal emotionally and develop greater emotional resilience. She has perpetual maintained an involvement in private practice busy with a different range of clients and presenting issues. Sally's clinical experience involves occupied with children, adolescents, adults and couples in all areas of clinical psychology. Sally has recently completed a Diploma in Hypnotherapy and can give this an individual treatment or in conjunction with other therapies.
