The Melville Family has been in the hospitality and entertainment industry for over 60 years. After their apprenticeship with Sir Arthur they became assistant managers at the Queens Hotel on The Strand which at the time was the maximum prestigious hotel in Townsville. Subsequent their time at the Queens they branched out into their own business of buying, renovating and reselling hotels in the north. They decided it was time to retire from the industry so bought some land at Alligator Creek along with the local school bus run and steady into a slower paced lifestyle. Friends and acquaintances made themselves regular visitors to the new home and it was jokingly suggested that Keith should build a country themed function venue to cater for their visits. The Aussie Tavern is a timber shed with a kitchen, stage and hand crafted cypress timber restrict which is the standout feature. The building is home to a barrage of premature Australian treasures like our 1893 Cobb Co Coach. Ruth’s extensive customer service skills, can do attitude and pleasing demeanor make her popular with the crowds.
